Our Pastor

Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God,which he bought with his own blood.

~Acts 20:28

Rev. Dr. Charles E. Thompson, Senior Pastor

Charles Eugene Thompson is a native of Queens, New York. He spent his childhood in Providence, Rhode Island before relocating as a youth to Henderson, North Carolina. Dr. Thompson is the second of nine children and a second-generation pastor.

His Christian journey began with salvation and baptism at a young age. Growing up, he served on the Usher’s Ministry, Youth Choir, Male Chorus and Youth Missionaries. Dr. Thompson has always had a passion for ministry and evangelism and has been actively involved in both areas throughout his life.

As a former Child Welfare Social Worker in North Carolina, he has been a compassionate community advocate. Always sensing the call of God upon his life, he has served in the Gospel Ministry for twenty-one years. His ministerial experience includes prior service as an Associate Minister and Youth Pastor. He has also been a Senior Pastor of two Baptist churches and currently serves as Senior Pastor of the Shiloh Institutional Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Dr. Thompson earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Central University; a Master of Divinity Degree in Preaching and Worship from Shaw University Divinity School; Clinical Pastoral Education at Wake Forest Baptist Health; a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Preaching and Leadership from United Theological Seminary; He is a nationally board-certified Chaplain and is employed by Atrium Health. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor to master’s level students at Apex School of Theology.

Dr. Thompson is a strong, visionary leader with a heart for people. The Scripture that best sums up his view of ministry comes from the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 9: 20-22 : “And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men that I might by all means save some.”

Dr. Thompson is married to the former Charlena Carlton. He is the proud father of four daughters and one son: Gabrielle Elizabeth, Jamisyn-Leigh Grace, Madison Faith, Aaliyah Monet, and Christian Samuel. He is just a nobody trying to tell everybody about somebody who can change anybody. That somebody is Jesus Christ!
